Life After the Cruise: Nixon Turns 12, Basketball, Skiing, Snow, Archery, Basement, Math is Cool, and Concerts

It was hard adjusting to real life after our cruise. But life moved on. We got drywall delivered for the basement.

It felt so different when the drywall started going up

The boys doing some intense puzzling

Kim can never leave the puzzles for the kids

Mason takes right after his mom

Nixon turned 12!

He thought he was getting shoes so we wrapped something else in a shoe box

Are slipper shoes?

He still got his shoes

We sent him on a little treasure hunt

He was pleasantly surprised to get a new trumpet

He chose an angel food cake with whipped cream and strawberries

We sang to him of course

We love our big boy

I sent the drone up one day and got a couple pictures of the house

I took the boys to a community college basketball game and we had lots of fun

Can't stop with the puzzles

I took some basketball pictures for the boys

How did we know his team shirt was going to be orange to match his new shoes?

Pickleball in some warm weather

Nixon also had some of his friends from his old school over to celebrate his birthday

They had a hot tub party

The pros

The girls enjoying a walk together

Mason finished this MASSIVE lego project

They fire department tested the fire alarms at the hospital while Kim was working and she got to pull the alarm

Mason had a crazy hair day

Kim and I took the boys out skiing for the first time this season

They all picked it right up again

Then it was back home for a soak to warm up

That evening there was a fireside with the General Young Men's President (Farnes) for the area youth and their parents. After we took Lyza and Nixon out for cookie dough

Nixon and Kim did some couch shopping

Lyza had a clarinet solo that was graded by a professional clarinetist

She got feedback afterwards

Henry finished his Lego project from Christmas

Some sunset pickleball

The boys playing on the scooters

Kim and I took a ski day and skied while it snowed on us all day

The snow was awesome and plentiful

We had a family night at the elementary school and the kids got to show us their art projects

And we got to play Bingo

We finally got some more snow and Mason put it to good use. He made snowmen

And a snow cave

There was an awards night at Charter and Nixon got an award for having a 4.0 and another award for being the top math student

Nixon planned an archery activity with the deacons quorum and Henry got to join in and learn how to shoot

Nixon is a natural

While that was happening Lyza and Kim were at a service project together making hygiene kits

Mason showing off his muscles while brining in groceries

On March 14th (pie day) Kim brought some pies home for the family

The snow didn't last long so Mason had to destroy his snow cave before it caved in on someone

Those pies were tasty

Nixon gave his first talk in sacrament meeting and he did so well!

We had a couple families over for dinner on a Sunday and all the kids enjoyed playing outside including having a snowball fight

Henry and Mason tried to catch a leprechaun for St. Patrick's day and once again were unsuccessful. They did get some treats though.

We got the drywall mudded, taped, and textured and then painted. The dark accent wall is where the TV will go.

I had to disassemble all of the doors that were also painted at the same time

Then I had to get the ethernet cable terminated before the TV was delivered

More puzzles

Mason helped bake some snickerdoodles

Nixon got his first haircut outside of the house and he got the "MVP" treatment

This was a tricky puzzle

I pulled a tree out of the backyard to make room for a shed

The day finally came to get our TV installed and despite my nervousness, they made it down the stairs with the TV

I was so relived

It passed initial inspection

It is a little bigger than our last one

Isn't Lyza beautiful?

This is some of the artwork Mason brought home from school

I got to assemble some new stools for our island

We got the vanity in the basement bathroom installed

And cabinets and a counter top for our TV room

Kim is a rockstar and prepainted all of our baseboard

Mason has been loving roller blading so he bought himself some new roller blades

Kim took the boys ice skating, which Mason excelled at

Henry did a good job picking it up

The electrician came and installed all of our light fixures

The design of the Coeur d'Alene Temple was approved by the City

Lyza and Nixon had a concert and rocked it

Some more couch shopping (we actually just had this one delivered two days ago but I will share more about that in a future post)

Mason had a "Math is Cool" competition. I love their team shirts: Grammar is important but math is importanter

He had so much fun

Kim filled all the hole and touched up the baseboards after they were installed

The band teacher at Charter is a trumpeter and plays in several bands. I got to take Lyza and Nixon to one of his performances and they loved being in a fancy restaurant

It was a fun show

The next day the primary sang in sacrament meeting so Mason and Henry were up there

Henry reuniting with a Chrismas present

Mason can't stop building

We got the hard flooring installed in the basement

There is so much more to catch up on but it will have to wait for another post. Take care.
