Last Sunday I took the kids for a walk down to our park and it had all the beautiful fall colors
The boys had lots of fun throwing rocks in the river
The maple tree in our front bed had beautiful leaves before the wind blew them all off
We had another moose sighting this week. Kim saw it and called me to tell me about it.
What a weird stance
Mason got to go to a play place with our backyard neighbors
On Monday night we had our neighbors over to care pumpkins
It is fun seeing the difference between the kids when they are scooping out the pumpkin guts
Lyza chose to paint her pumpkin
We had a spooky drink that backfired a little
They were fascinated
From left to right: Henry, Fran, Mick, Nixon, and Mason
We had fun together and even got to help our neighbor Mick with some family history
Tuesday we said goodbye to our furnace
And hello to our new furnace
We also got our air conditioner installed. Of course it is too cold to use it right now so they will have to come back in the spring and get it running. It is a little bit difficult paying for an air conditioner that we won't be able to use for 6 or more months but I just keep reminding myself how hot it got last summer working from our bedroom and I am a little more patient and happy that this is done.
The kids got to go trick or treating at the library this week
Here are the kids all dressed up ready for the trunk or treat
We also had our ward trunk or treat
Comparing candy afterward
After we enjoyed watching the Legend of Sleepy Hollow and eating some candy
Check out that spider hat that he made
We have had lots of pine needles this season. This is 25 bags full.
The kids each got a free personal pie for coming in to the store with their costumes
Friday night we attended a community Halloween carnival sponsored by a local church (think great and spacious building...)
The kids got to play different games and collect lots of candy
Here is a little compilation of the the fun. My favorite is Mason's comment after playing tic-tac-toe with Henry
When we woke up on Saturday morning it was foggy and kind of spooky
After the fog cleared it was beautiful and Nixon and I went for a hike at Tubbs Hill. We have hiked this many times as a family but we always start the loop from the same place and go the same direction. This time I decided to start at a different place and to hike it at the opposite direction. This is the marina where we parked and started the hike.
Nixon had lots of fun being able to explain the shore and beaches whenever he wanted
I am not sure this feather naturally landed here but it looked cool
We got a good view of the CDA Resort and Golf Course
My handsome hiking buddy
We also left the main loop trail and hiked up to the summit
Here we are at the summit with an obstructed view of CDA behind us
Through the trees (and with a telephoto lens) you can see parts of the city
We then hiked back down and finished the loop
Nixon in a little cave
And under some rock
It was fun hiking in a reverse direction from how we normally hike because we saw things from a new perspective. This is a view of a beach and peninsula that we usually hike down to
Nixon and I hiked down there and Nixon climbed up this tower a little bit
On the way back we got some good views of the resort
When we were almost done hiking we came up on this cool bird (pileated woodpecker). Too bad it flew away before I could change to a longer lens
While Nixon and I were out hiking Kim and the other kids were enjoying some more Halloween festivities
Including petting a huge bunny
And seeing a real like Marshal from Paw Patrol (I am not sure he was having the same good time)
For dinner Kim made a jack-o'-lantern pizza
They were predicting that the northern lights would be visible last night. I though about going out to see if that was true and got some camera gear ready. But as the day went on I realized I was too tired to try. Instead a set the camera up in the backyard over night. Here is what I got.
Take care and Happy Halloween!
