Kim's Birthday, Back to Charter, Henry's Birthday, and Scotchman Peak

If you recall the boys were backpacking on Kim's birthday. She decided to practice swimming that morning at the river.

Nixon helped me wash the truck when we got home from our backpacking trip

We celebrated Kim that afternoon/evening

It is always a treat to see what Mason comes up with

Kim got her wish and we had cheese cake with homemade huckleberry topping

The following Monday Lyza and Nixon had their first day of school

Dropping them off at school

Mason made a replica of his headphone with Lego!

Kim took Mason and Henry out to lunch at Red Robin

Nixon and Mason had a Valiant Boys activity tubing on the river

That evening Lyza was in charge of the young women's activity. She (with the help of her very supporting mother) organized a Mystery Cafe

Check out that menu

The girls had a great time

The next morning our little boy woke up and was not quite as little. Henry turned 7!
He asked for acai bowls for breakfast

He also wanted to open his presents in the morning before Lyza and Nixon left for school

Thanks, Grandma and Grandpa

He also got a new wallet, with some money in it

A new watch

Some hot wheels cars

Think he likes this shirt? "Chicken Jockey" (from the Minecraft Movie)

This one really made him happy

A new retro handled, aka "Gameboy"

Henry and Mason went bowling in the afternoon

Henry even got some birthday mail on his birthday

That evening there was an open house at the elementary school and Henry got to meet his teacher and check out his classroom

Then it was time for cake lemon bars

He approved

The next day we took the boys to Altitude for further birthday celebrations

Henry got a free slushie for his birthday

They had lots of fun together

Last Saturday Nixon and I got up bright and early to hike Scotchman Peak

It is a 4 mile hike up with 3,717 feet of elevation gain (very steep)

It is also well known for having mountain goats

When we started there was a lot of fog

As we kept getting higher that fog was burning off

This is what our view looked like from 2.29 miles

Nixon was such a good hiking companion

Still climbing

View of where we were trying to get

This isn't at the top yet but the views were beautiful

Getting close

Nearing the top we had out first mountain goat sighting

They are so cool to see up close. This is a mom and a baby

The baby

These two hiked along side us for a while on the way to the top

After that we saw another goat at the top

That goat from the top started down and was walking on our trail right ahead of us

He walked right in front of us across the trail

This shelter is right before the summit

We finally made it to the summit

We saw two more goats over the ridge resting on a ledge (this is 5 goats we have seen now)

This is a view looking toward Lake Pend Oreille

Nixon had to flex a little

There were lots of lady bugs at the top

Nixon and I at the top

The two goats we saw resting below the ridge came out to spend time with us while we were eating our lunch

And they definitely posed for the camera

I flew the drone to get some different perspective

The views were beautiful and luckily there wasn't too much smoke in the air

Nixon of course had to throw some rocks off of the top

We saw goats 4 and 5 some more on the way down

Here is a video of the hike

Have a great week and take care.
