Countdown to Christmas, with a pit stop at Lyza's birthday

Kim and I had a vision of a big world map in our family room as artwork and something that we can use to teach the kids. We bought some fence boards and started making that vision a reality. I cut, sanded and stained some fence boards to make a frame
We attached a world map to the wall then nailed the stained boards directly to the wall

We are pretty happy with the finished product

It is getting pretty Christmas-y around here
We have had visits from cute little elves
We decorated the Christmas tree for family home evening

Pretty tree, now we just have to figure out a way to keep the kids from taking all of the decorations off. Maybe we could incorporate some technology from an electric fence?
Miss Lyza and I had a fun time playing Jenga together one night this week
She can be so focused when she wants to be
She also really likes when the tower falls over
I don't think she understands that the objective of the game is to avoid making it fall over
Kim is carrying on one of our traditions where we wrap up a bunch of Christmas books and let the kids open one each day before Christmas

This is the first year we are trying the Elf on the Shelf, although Humpty Dumpty is a great story too
left for work once they opened this one. Kim said that Lyza was terrified by the Elf and it eventually had to be put away because she was so scared of it. Maybe next year.
Nixon likes playing this game where we roll him up in a blanket and the he struggles to get out. He always manages to get out without too much trouble. I decided to kick that game up a notch and rolled him up in a pilates mat. He didn't like it very much!

 Nice boots cool dude!
We have had lots of fun around the house today. Kim has been doing some Christmas shopping and the kids and I have just been hanging out and relaxing.
Christmas dancing has also been keeping us busy
The kids like having their pictures taken when the phone is in "selfie" mode and they can see themselves

Lyza is OBSESSED with dinosaurs right now. Here is a song she made up about brachiosauruses. I have had to listen to this song all day. Although, to her credit, the song has matured and gotten better as the day has gone on. This is one of her earliest versions.
We are excited for Lyza's birthday and Christmas coming up. This time of year is especially fun without having to worry about final exams ;)
Take care.

Thanksgiving 2015

We got some snow this last week and it hasn't even melted yet. Snow makes holidays seem a little more legit
The kids had some fun decorating gingerbread houses for family home evening

Look at that focus
Kevin, Amanda, and Hailey visited for Thanksgiving. We put Kevin right to work painting in the family room

We did a Thanksgiving pot luck dinner at the church and it didn't disappoint. We all enjoyed the food and it was much easier than preparing an entire Thanksgiving meal by ourselves. The only down side is the lack of left overs.
We woke up the next morning to a moose in the neighbors yard. I know our fence is a little pathetic, but at least it keeps the moose out
Nixon and his little cousin Hailey
On Friday we did some shopping. The kids enjoyed Toys "R" Us

Lyza wanted to look at dinosaurs the whole time. This one was a little too much for them

Lyza got an early birthday present from Kevin and Amanda. She has been playing with these dinosaurs non stop
Friday night we braved the cold and went to the Coeur d'Alene Holiday Light Show at the resort.
There was an awesome fireworks show

Video of the fireworks

Nixon getting some good reading time with Kevin
Hailey is so sweet and well behaved
Here is the accent wall in the family room

It took me a few minutes to remember how to hold a baby. Nixon is definitely not a little baby anymore
Kevin and Amanda also got Nixon this awesome basketball hoop. He figured it out right away
Horsey rides
Amanda and Kim got their craft on
They made these cute Christmas trees for kids to play with
Nixon did pretty well with Hailey
Except when she sneezed on him :)
Cute kids!
We got the tree up on Saturday. It's beginning to look like Christmas around here. The next post should have some tree decorating action!
For some reason Kevin and Kim thought this would be a good idea, and for some reason I went along with it. Sigh...
We had a great time celebrating American Thanksgiving (and Black Friday ;) with our Canadian family. Take care and enjoy the Christmas season.
