When our van is packed this tight it can only mean one thing...trip to Canada!
On our rest stop in Cranbrook the kids were fascinated with all of the little caterpillars hanging from the trees
The timbits were delicious so we knew we were going to have a good trip
When we got to Kevin and Amanda's house in Calgary the cousins were all excited to be together
We had lots of fun with a back yard bbq
Playing at the park
I think Mason was acting silly before bed
We all (except for Kevin because he was working) went to Grannary Road Active Learning Park and had so much fun
There are 11 different themed areas with learning components and activities for the kids. Each is essentially a themed playground
The frog park has a bunch of these lily pads (in-ground trampolines)
There are also educational displays and infographics
And where else can your almost-two-year-old ride on a pig?
The wagon got pretty heavy
The bats were super cool/freaky
While we were in this maze a huge rainstorm rolled over. Literally the worst place to get rained on because we had to find our way out of the maze before we could find cover ;)
So we had lots more time in the bat caves waiting out the rain
I think Lyza is teaching her cousin her dance moves
This area was all about bees
There was a petting zoo!
Think Nixon was enjoying this?
"No Mason, you can't ride the goat!"
Peacock
Turkey
Alpacas
The wind was messing with this guy's feathers
Llama
Nixon made friends with a horse
The kids loved this area the most. It was four stories with slides between them all and ways to climb up them.
The bottom area had a bunch of these foam eggs that the kids could roll around and collect
Here is a view of some of the area
Cute pair
Lyza found her soul creature
Here she is hatching some eggs
This little kids maze was a lot more manageable than the adult one
Now that is a sand box
This egg thing was a lot of fun
We went to a splash park that evening
And the kids played in the water some more after that
We roasted some hot dogs (Kevin ;) for dinner
And finished off with some s'mores
Mason finds the most interesting ways to watch videos
The next day we went to the Calgary zoo. Here we are posing as flamingos
The butterfly area is always lots of fun
Seeing bananas growing always makes me miss my mission. You can also see a butterfly on the tree about half of the way down and toward the right side
Here is that same butterfly. Maybe it wasn't real?
These camels were not having a good hair day
Here is Mason looking a dragon face to face
The line up to see the pandas was SUPER long. I am not sure it was worth the wait to see a sleeping panda
Whatever we were looking at Mason was sure excited
I think he was watching this super funny gorilla. If you listen closely you can hear Lyza cackling in the background
Giraffes never disappoint
Hippo
Zebra
The kids were afraid of walking along this net at first but by the time we had to move along they didn't want to leave
Lunch time
Cute
Even more cute
My cute boys
The penguins were lots of fun to look at
Cousins playing soccer together
Cute kids
On our last day we all drive to Drumheller to go to the Royal Tyrell Museum and see some real dinosaur fossils!
The large scale replicas of dinosaurs were fun to see and show how big they were
This area showed people working on real fossils
This glass floor freaked all of the kids out
Cute bunch
Our dinosaur fan club
The t-rex skeleton is the best
Truth be told, the playground outside was really the kids' favorite party. The museum is fun but if the kids are too young to read it is not ideal
This huge fossil in the sand was really cool
After Calgary/Drumheller we traveled on to Edmonton. Thanks Kevin and Amanda for the fun times in Calgary.
Next episode: Edmonton
